About the product

What are Defensible Range Targets?

Defensible Range Targets are three-dimensional rubber silhouettes manufactured from recycled materials. Their anatomical profile provides a more realistic training form than a flat paper target while remaining suitable for use from close-quarter distances through to longer-range applications.

The target is designed without a metal target face. Projectiles pass through the rubber body and continue into the range’s existing approved backstop, reducing the ricochet concerns associated with rigid steel target surfaces.

A contrasting white-painted surface over the black rubber construction makes fresh impact points easy to identify. The target can also be dressed with clothing or fitted with armour to create more varied and realistic training scenarios.

With a potential service life of up to approximately 2,000 rounds and the ability to carry out simple repairs, the design provides a durable and cost-effective option for sustained range use.

Product design

Durable 3D Rubber Silhouette

A recycled-rubber construction combines anatomical shape, visible impact identification and compatibility with an existing range backstop.

Defensible Ballistics recycled rubber range target silhouette

Rubber Range Target

A freestanding anatomical silhouette designed for small-, medium- and large-calibre range applications.

Core advantages

Key features

01

Ricochet-Conscious Construction

The rubber target contains no metal striking surface, allowing rounds to continue into the approved range backstop.

02

Versatile 3D Form

The anatomical silhouette can be used bare, dressed in clothing or combined with armour for varied scenarios.

03

Impact Identification

A white-painted outer surface contrasts with the black rubber beneath, making fresh strike locations easier to see.

04

Recycled Materials

Constructed from recycled rubber to reduce waste and support a more environmentally responsible range product.

05

Extended Service Life

Capable of withstanding up to approximately 2,000 rounds depending on calibre, grouping and test conditions.

06

Repairable Design

Localised damage can be repaired using straightforward materials, helping extend the target’s usable life.

Operational use

Range applications

The same target form can support basic accuracy work, impact observation and more developed scenario-based training.

Distance and calibre flexibility

  • Close-quarter training
  • Medium-range practice
  • Longer-range applications
  • Small-, medium- and large-calibre use subject to range approval

Scenario versatility

  • Use as a plain anatomical silhouette
  • Add clothing for visual realism
  • Fit armour or protective equipment
  • Use contrast paint to refresh impact visibility
Range requirement: The target is not a backstop or containment system. It must always be positioned in front of a suitable, approved range backstop and used in accordance with the range operator’s procedures.
Maintenance

Care, repair and impact visibility

Extending service life

Rotate or reposition the target where practical to avoid repeatedly concentrating impacts in one small area. Inspect the silhouette between sessions and repair localised damage before it expands.

Refreshing the target face

Reapply a suitable white surface coating when required. The renewed contrast between the light surface and dark rubber helps restore clear point-of-impact identification.

Common questions

Range Target support

Is the target completely ricochet-free?

The target has no metal striking face and is designed so projectiles pass through into the existing range backstop. The complete range setup, ammunition and surrounding surfaces must still be assessed by the range operator.

How many rounds will it withstand?

It can withstand up to approximately 2,000 rounds, although actual life depends on calibre, grouping, impact location and maintenance.

Can it be used with clothing or armour?

Yes. The three-dimensional anatomical shape allows clothing or armour to be fitted for more realistic scenarios.

How are impact points identified?

The white-painted surface contrasts with the black rubber underneath, so new impact locations are highlighted.

Can the target be repaired?

Yes. The product is designed so localised damage can be repaired using simple materials, helping extend service life.

Is the target itself a backstop?

No. It must be used with an existing suitable and approved range backstop.
